How to Set Up IPTV on a Smart TV in the UK (2026): Samsung, LG and Google TV

How to set up IPTV on a smart TV in the UK on Samsung, LG and Google TV

The TV is already on the wall, already on the broadband and already the biggest screen in the house. If your IPTV subscription can run on it, you skip the extra box on the shelf, the spare HDMI port and the second remote. Setting up IPTV on a smart TV in the UK is a 10-minute job on the right hardware, and a dead end on the wrong app choice — because the app your friends swear by almost certainly doesn't run on the TV you own.

In 2026 that statement is more accurate than ever. TiviMate, the app UK guides have default-recommended for years, still doesn't run on Samsung Tizen or LG webOS televisions. IPTV Smarters Pro, the second default, was removed from both Google Play and the App Store in early 2026 during a takedown wave. On many TVs, the app that actually works now carries a small one-time activation fee and expects you to upload your playlist from a laptop.

This guide covers the setup end to end: which app goes on which television, the exact install steps for Samsung's Tizen (2022 and newer), LG's webOS and Google TV sets, the EPG settings that make the channel list usable, the fixes for the failures we see most support tickets about, and what to check before you buy a TV for IPTV. If you're on a Fire TV Stick rather than a TV, read our Firestick setup walkthrough instead — the TVs and sticks behave differently enough that they deserve separate guides.

Quick answer: which app fits your TV

One fee covers it: the €5.49 is the developer's charge for the player app, paid once per television, and your provider's subscription is separate. Nothing about your IPTV plan changes based on which TV app you pick — any provider that sends a standard Xtream Codes login or an M3U playlist works in all of the players above (our guide to Xtream Codes logins explains the difference).

First, identify your TV platform in 30 seconds

Every troubleshooting session below is easier once you know what operating system the TV runs, because the three smart TV platforms in UK living rooms have completely different app stores and rules.

  • Samsung TVs (Tizen): any set from 2022 onwards runs Tizen 6.5 or newer, which is exactly the version the Smart IPTV developer built a fresh 3.1.3 app for, updated 29 July 2026 on the siptv.app news feed. Sets from 2019 to 2021 run an earlier build (3.0.105) and the app is harder to find in some regional store listings.
  • LG TVs (webOS): webOS 3.0 or newer is covered by the current Smart IPTV app, refreshed 15 July 2026. Every LG smart TV sold in the UK in the last several years qualifies.
  • Google TV / Android TV: if the TV has Google Play, it behaves like an Android tablet that happens to be enormous. Sony, Philips, Hisense, Sharp, TCL and many budget UK brands run this, and TiviMate installs from the store.
  • Sky Glass: Sky's own platform only runs apps Sky has chosen to publish, and it has no sideload route. Treat an IPTV subscription on a Sky Glass as something you run on a second device unless Sky changes that.

If you're shopping rather than setting up — the buying checklist at the end covers which platform gives the least friction.

What you need before you start

Have these three things ready and every install below becomes copy-and-paste rather than detective work.

  1. Your provider's login. A working setup needs either an M3U playlist URL or an Xtream Codes login (a server URL, a username, and a password). A serious provider sends both formats and an EPG link after the account is activated. What channels you'll see depends entirely on the provider — the player is only a window.
  2. A laptop or phone for the activation page. Samsung and LG installs rate well because the playlist upload happens on the developer's website over your TV's MAC address; you'll need the MAC shown on the app's opening screen.
  3. Ethernet if the router is near the TV. The single most common cause of "it buffers" on smart TVs is 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with a dozen devices sharing it, and the fix costs nothing if the TV is close to the router.

If you don't have a provider yet, test one before paying. We run MarkIPTV, and our plans come with a free 24-hour trial you can run through the whole setup on your own TV first — the trial is the point of the checklist you're holding, so use it.

Samsung Tizen: the step-by-step

Works on Samsung 2022 and newer sets natively; 2019–2021 sets use the older build. Around 10 minutes total.

  1. Install the app. On the TV, open Apps, search Smart IPTV, and install it. On 2022+ models this is the current 3.1.3 app. The developer's news page notes this is a new install from the Apps Store on top of any older version you may have had — a fresh install replaces, rather than updates, the previous build.
  2. Note the MAC address. Launch the app. Its first screen shows your TV's MAC address; you'll paste that into the upload page in a moment.
  3. Upload your playlist from a browser. On a phone or laptop, open the developer's siptv.eu/mylist page, enter the TV's MAC address and paste your provider's M3U URL into the upload box. Submit, then restart the app on the TV. The channel list appears within seconds. (MarkIPTV sends M3U and Xtream formats in the same login email, so copy the M3U field for this step.)
  4. Add the EPG. On the same My List page there's a separate EPG/XMLTV field. Paste your provider's EPG link there and the app pairs it against the channels. Sky's channels, sports and movies then show programme names and times instead of raw channel numbers — the difference between an app and a proper TV replacement.
  5. Activate. The app runs on a free trial while you test it. When you're happy, pay the one-time activation — €5.49 per TV — on the developer's siptv.app/activation page using the same MAC, or via the SmartPay in-app purchase option. The developer is blunt about the rule that matters: the payment activates the player only, and brings no channels. Activation without a subscription is a €5.49 theatre ticket.
  6. Keep the TV on Ethernet and reboot once. If a channel freezes straight after installation, reboot the TV before anything else. The app caches the playlist locally and old caches cause the mysterious "channels missing" ticket.

Samsung trap to know: on some regional store listings the app reappears under slightly different availability. If the store search fails, check the TV's software update status first — and on pre-2022 sets, expect to install via the older app listing or use a Fire Stick/Android box alongside the TV. One useful verified note from the developer's Android instructions: on Android 10+ devices, having the TV or box use its true device MAC instead of a randomized Wi-Fi MAC stops the playlist page "losing" your device between reboots.

LG webOS: the step-by-step

Also around 10 minutes, with two LG-specific quirks.

  1. Install the app. Open the LG Content Store, search Smart IPTV (it lives in the Entertainment category), and install. webOS 3.0 and newer are supported by the current 3.1.3 build.
  2. Country availability check. The developer documents that some countries' stores — including Italy, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland — don't carry the paid version. The documented workaround is to register the TV under a different country's LG services during purchase, install, then switch back to the UK. UK sets are fine in most cases; this paragraph exists because the symptom is so confusing when it happens.
  3. Upload your playlist exactly as in the Samsung section — same siptv.eu/mylist page, same MAC, paste the M3U URL, then paste the EPG link into the EPG field.
  4. Activate for €5.49, once. Either the same siptv.app/activation panel, or the SmartPay in-app route. LG sets bought in some countries offer the paid version directly in the store; one entry in the LG store ends the separate activation.
  5. Know the stream-type limit. LG's documentation on stream types is the filed-down edge of this guide: webOS sets won't play UDP multicast, RTP, RTMP or RTSP streams, and UDP multicast only works through a UDPXY proxy. In practice this means the provider's HTTP/HLS links (which is what Xtream logins and M3U from any mainstream UK provider produce) run fine, and exotic stream types don't. If a specific channel refuses to start while others play, it's usually that channel's stream format, and support can point you to the alternative link.

Google TV / Android TV: the shortest route

If the TV has a Play Store, this is the easiest platform of the three, and it's what we recommend for a new TV purchase.

  1. Install TiviMate from Google Play. Free version: one playlist, live viewing, EPG, favourites. Premium (≈ $9.99/year through the TiviMate Companion app): five playlists, recordings, multi-view, picture-in-picture and priority updates.
  2. On first launch, add a playlist and choose Xtream Codes login. Paste the server URL, username and password from your provider's email — this route pulls channels and EPG automatically, which is why it beats pasting an M3U link by hand.
  3. Set the EPG time offset if schedules show an hour out; UK feeds should land on GMT/BST automatically in most cases.

TiviMate's full strengths and current pricing are covered app-by-app in our best IPTV apps for UK viewers guide. One caution from that guide worth restating here: IPTV Smarters Pro, the app most older Samsung/LG articles recommended, came off both app stores in early 2026 following legal action around a broadcast rights holder — if you follow a 2024 article naming Smarters, the store listing you find under that name today is usually a different developer's upload, and that matters for trust.

What our MarkIPTV plans look like on a smart TV

Marked clearly, as we do in every guide, because this is the part where we sell. Everything above was written via the developers' documentation; the paragraph below is about us.

An IPTV subscription only earns its keep on the TV screen in your lounge, so we build the plan around exactly this setup:

MarkIPTV planLive-sale priceWhat you get
1 month$17 (flash sale, from $34)38,000+ live channels, 98,000+ VODs, EPG & Time-Shift
3 months$29 (from $58)Same features
6 months$37 (from $74)Same features
12 months$77 (from $199, save 61%)Same features, best per-month rate

All plans include SD through 4K quality, instant automatic channel updates, EPG and Time-Shift out of the box, 24/7 support, an order processed between 5 minutes and 8 hours after payment, and a free 24-hour trial to run this entire walkthrough before paying anything. Payment options include PayPal, card and crypto. The service works on the exact platforms in this guide — Samsung, LG and Sony smart TVs are listed among our supported devices, and the login email contains the M3U link for Smart IPTV plus the Xtream login for TiviMate, so whichever TV platform you own, you get the format the app wants. Full details sit on the MarkIPTV homepage and on our blog index.

A note on the numbers above: they're the live flash-sale prices displayed on our site when this guide was written. Flash-sale prices rise back to the struck-through amounts when the banner expires, so if you're reading this months later, check the current banner before comparing to alternatives.

Buying a TV for IPTV in 2026: the 4-point checklist

  1. Prefer Google TV / Android TV if you want the fewest compromises. TiviMate runs natively, the store is open, and the setup above turns a TV into the best IPTV screen for most viewers.
  2. Samsung 2022+ or any LG with webOS is perfectly workable with Smart IPTV, and the current app versions got real maintenance through mid-2026. Budget the one-time €5.49 into the decision, like a £5 phone case.
  3. Check the network port. Ethernet built into the TV saves the whole first weekend of troubleshooting.
  4. Avoid plans that depend on the TV being the platform's chosen device. Sky Glass and similar closed platforms can't run third-party IPTV players; anything you watch there has to run on a second box anyway, so weigh that TV purchase accordingly.

FAQ

Can I set IPTV up on a Samsung or LG TV without a Fire Stick or box?

Yes. Both brands run Smart IPTV natively from their stores, with a one-time €5.49 activation, and the 2026 app builds are actively updated.

Why can't I just use TiviMate on my Samsung TV?

TiviMate is built as an Android app and has never shipped for Samsung's Tizen or LG's webOS platforms. On those TVs you install Smart IPTV — or connect a Fire Stick or Android box to the TV and use TiviMate there.

Is a licence needed to watch IPTV on my TV?

A UK TV licence is legally required to watch or stream live TV programmes on any device — smart TV, stick, phone or laptop — regardless of which service you watch, whether that's the BBC, Sky channels or a licensed IPTV platform. The current annual rate is £180, and it applies per household. Watching only on-demand content, like VOD films and series, doesn't require the licence, but the live-channel part of IPTV usage does.

Do I need to pay €5.49 for each device?

Yes — the activation is per TV or device with its own MAC. If you run the same subscription on a phone as well, the phone player (a Smarters-family or similar app) is free; the fee is per player device on Samsung/LG.

My M3U works on my laptop but not on the TV. What's going wrong?

Laptop VLC tries the raw stream directly and will play nearly anything; the TV app needs HTTP-based streams and a properly uploaded playlist. Re-check that you pasted the M3U into siptv.eu/mylist against the right TV MAC, and confirm your provider's links are HTTP/HLS rather than UDP multicast.

Is IPTV on my smart TV safe?

Security rests mostly on the subscription you point the player at, not the TV. Install the player from the official store for your TV, take a free trial before the paid activation, and be wary of the 2026 successor apps squatting on removed names like Smarters. Our guide to what a reliable provider looks like walks through the sensible checks before you hand over money.
